We request that all partner organizations complete the MAVSA Partnership Agreement by April 30, 2019. EC members will be calling all current partners to share updated information and the partnership agreement in advance of the April meeting. The April 30th Partnership Meeting will include a facilitated discussion of unmet military, veteran and family needs in Beaufort County and conduct a facilitated discussion of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Please plan on attending and sharing your organization’s unique insights about how our community can better serve and meet the needs!


 

April 1, 2019 Update - The MAVSA Executive Committee (EC) welcomes the following new members: Connie Hipp, Secretary/Treasurer; Michael Weiss, At-Large Member; Donnie Beer, At-Large Member; and Angela Barnard, At-Large Member. Their pictures and contact information are posted on the “Who We Are/Executive Committee” tab. The MAVSA EC recently approved the Guiding Principles which you will also find posted on the “Who We Are” page; as well as updated mission and vision statements which better reflect the MAVSA work as a collaborative organization.

PTSD Research Program

The Savannah Veterans Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Research Program is a large scale research study being conducted by Medical University of South Carolina/Ralph H Johnson VA Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System/University of Michigan Medical School, and VA San Diego Healthcare System/University of California San Diego. It is a randomized controlled trial of sertraline, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and their combination in OEF/OIF/OND Veterans with PTSD. Veterans who have, or believe they have, symptoms of PTSD and wish to participate in the study should call the Savannah VA clinic at 912-920-0214 ext. 2169.  There are two public service announcements for the study.  They are Veterans PSA and Providers PSA.




Vietnam War Commemoration

In Accordance With Public Law 110-181 SEC.598; the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and "in conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War."  The program will span the period from 2015 to 2017.  Go to www.vietnamwar50th.com for more details.
