America Serves is working with local South Carolina veteran service organizations to establish a 24/7 Coordination Center in Charleston to serve The Lowcountry.   Initially, the Center will coordinate support for veterans in five counties, Beaufort, Berkley, Colleton, Dorchester, and Georgetown.

America Serves emerged from studies in the Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families.   "Driving Community Impact: The Case for Local, Evidence-Based Coordination in Veteran and Military Services and the AmericaServes Initiative," published in April 2015, serves as a key source for the program.   Three Centers are functioning:  NYServes in New York City, PAServes in Philadelphia, and NCServes in Charlotte.   Each Center links local organizations and local branches/offices of national organizations to coordinate each response to a veteran or family member.   The Center collaborates with the lead provider and supporting organizations to address all the needs of each veteran.   The ongoing collaboration holds all parties accountable to provide effective service.

When The United States of America Vietnam War 50th Commemoration was created in 2012, one of our first commemorative partners was the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF). As the nonprofit organization that founded the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C, VVMF spends every day honoring the legacy of those who served and sacrificed in Vietnam so this partnership made perfect sense. Since 2012, over nine thousand organizations like yours have joined as commemorative partners. All of us have pledged to honor those who served by participating in at least two events each year in 2016 - 2018.

We're reaching out to inform you of a unique opportunity to join VVMF in this mission at an upcoming event in Blythewood, SC on May 24-30 at DOKO Meadow Park, 100 Alvina Hagood Circle. The half-scale replica of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Wall That Heals, travels to nearly 40 communities each year. Soon, we'll be in your backyard with our mobile exhibit. The Town of Blythewood is proudly hosting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Wall That Heals for this event that will include ceremonies, educational opportunities, and reflection for visitors young and old. You can join us as a visitor, as a volunteer, or assist the local hosts in their effort to bring a national memorial home.
